Data can now make it easier for drivers to find a vacant parking space near their destination.

It is now possible to predict where to find vacant parking spots by combining historical data and real time data, algorithms and machine learning.

The City of Copenhagen approach is based on data and algorithms. Around 30 different data sources have been pinpointed, mostly relating to the parking and traffic situation, but also including data about incidents, events, excavation work etc. A proof of concept has been carried out during the summer of 2017 which identified methods to predict the parking pattern on different days and provide drivers with information about the probability of finding a vacant parking space.

The City of Copenhagen invites developers and providers of navigation equipment, mobile apps etc. to utilise the parking data which is now available free of charge.
